I just did some basic repairs on a home and thought I would share a bit more about fixing sheet rock. In this post I will deal with fixing badly taped joints.
Clearly a bad taping job.
I start by cutting out all of the tape from that joints and removing any loose pieces.
I tape using 90 minute mud. I prefer repairing and taping sheet rock with 90 minute mud because of its drying time and it does not shrink. Twenty and 40 minute mud dry to quickly for this kid. After its dry I float out the joint with topping compound. It is really difficult to photograph the in between phases with white walls. The above photo actually is already primed and ready for spray texture.
The repaired wall is flat and smooth.
